I really love filming craftsmen and women at the top of their game. Linley make world class furniture. Bellerby make world class globes. This video shows the result of a collaboration between the two companies. The Tellus globe was one of the pieces made for the 2018 Masterpiece show and I loved being there as it was created. Filming at the Bellerby workshop was like stepping back in time. All their globes are handmade and take thousands of hours to make. I loved meeting the founder Peter Bellerby who pretty much revived the lost skills of making globes by hand ten years ago.

Wanting to buy his father a globe for his 80th birthday, he found none worth buying and so decided to make his own. He thought it would be easy. Two years later he had sold his house and car to bankroll his globemaking and several of his father’s birthdays came and went. Ten years later and he’s at the top of his game and I felt privileged to film him at work.

As always the Linley team were a joy to film at their workshops making the base. The globe and my video were very well received at Masterpiece 2018. I can’t wait to see what they come up with for Masterpiece 2019.
