One obvious benefit of filming food is that often you get to eat it afterwards. This isn’t always as appetising as it sounds; in order to make the food look its best, some unexpected tricks are used, like pouring white paint on cereal because it looks better on film than milk. Another trick is to use engine oil rather than maple syrup on pancakes.
However luckily on this shoot it was all authentic tapas with no engine oil or paint in sight. I spent two days filming all sorts of tapas being made. I set up an overhead rig for a top down look as well as filming from the front. The garlic and chili prawns were outstanding!
