After filming an evening event in Hampshire on Saturday I checked the forecast for Sunday and it looked ideal for flying so I drove up to London to pick up the paraglider and the following morning drove down to Wiltshire where the wind was ideal for flying on Rybury. As I arrived at 11.30, a group of four pilots set off cross country and within minutes were up at cloudbase at 5000ft and heading towards the Chilterns. The conditions were a bit strong for me and I waited on the hill as strong gusts came through, watching a few pilots being dragged towards the barbed wire fence on landing or take-off. It wasn’t until about 3.30 that I took off halfway down the hill with the help of Tom. Soon I was soaring with a group of three other paragliders up and down the slope. Within twenty minutes however the wind had picked up and I was in danger of being blown back over the top of the hill. Even with full speed bar I was unable to fly fast enough away from the hill and was dragged for a few metres along the ground on landing. Thanks to the […]
It’s been a busy few weeks what with flying to Frankfurt and Zurich on consecutive days to do some corporate filming for UBS Warburg followed by four days in Las Vegas at a Hewlett Packard press conference.
Over the Bank Holiday weekend, when most of you were enjoying a three day weekend and maybe a barbecue, I was hard at work filming this fantastic sculpture for Bonhams.
After two weeks paragliding it was sadly time to get back to work. Therefore I found myself in Mauritius filming a five day wedding at the luxurious 5 star hotel Le Saint Geran. Emilio Estefan was there with his band who played one evening by the pool as part of the festivities which also included dinner, dancing and fireworks on the idyllic Ile Aux Cerfs. I was there with Chris, another cameraman and between us we shot over 30 hours of footage. Thank God I’m not editing it! For those of you who think that sounds like a holiday, the filming was non-stop and I didn’t even get to swim in the sea. It would have been fantastic to explore the island but as we were either working or sleeping, we didn’t have time. What we saw was spectacular and the Mauritian people were the friendliest I have ever met. I’ll just have to go back another time! Thanks to Chris – I couldn’t have managed without you!
I have spent the past two weeks on the South Downs learning to paraglide. The weather was fantastic and I managed to gain my club pilot qualification in 8 consecutive days.
Well almost a year has passed since I stood on the summit of Everest with my brother Tom and our Sherpa friend Pasang Dawa. It hasn’t been an easy year – I lost parts of four toes to frostbite, spent 8 months with my foot elevated, unable to walk, drive or work.
