At the beginning of the week I took advantage of a day without work and loaded up the car with my flying kit for an afternoons paramotoring. I drove to Guildford and was in the air by 4pm. There was barely a whisper of wind so I had to run fast to take off. Once in the air I gained height, crossed the Hogs Back (above) and followed the A3 towards Hindhead. I wanted to fly over the entrance of the bypass tunnel being built under the Devils Punchbowl. I have a friend who works on a farm there just off the A3 and also wanted to check out landing options for when I want to pay him a visit.
On the way back I spotted a paramotor wing in a field next to the A3 on the ground, laid out ready for take-off. I circled waiting for him to join me. I don’t know who he was but we flew together for fifteen minutes or so waving to each other and flying over Charterhouse school (above) before I headed back towards the Hogs Back. After following it for a few kilometres, trying out different flying trims and taking some photos, I landed as I was low on fuel.
An hour or so later I took off for a sunset flight, joining another pilot Andy in the air. Andy had to land but then I was joined by Laura and we flew until the sun went down. What a perfect way to spend a day. I had a total of almost three hours in the air.
